Gus Dean Rallies from Early Spin to Finish Seventh at Toledo

Dated: 23 May, 2016

(Toledo, Ohio.  May 22 2016-) Gus Dean driver of the No. 98 Chevrolet for Mason Mitchell Motorsports (MMM) rallied from an early spin where he lost a lap to earn a seventh place finish in the Menards 200 at the Toledo Speedway.

Gus and Sheldon Creed made contact in turn four on lap 16 which sent both drivers spinning. Dean would continue the race with no severe damage but would lose one lap during the process.
It took Dean and the No. 98 team 100 laps to receive the free pass at lap 116 and get back on the lead lap. The 21-year- old came down pit-road and took his four tires during the caution.

Dean and the No. 98 team stayed out during the afternoon’s final caution and restarted in the second position with 34 laps remaining. Dean would lose three spots during the final restart after being forced into a three-wide situation. He safely found his way in the seventh position. The No. 98 car would cross the finish line in the seventh.

“We really had our work cut out for us today,” Dean stated after the 200 lap event. “Unfortunately we lost a lap during the spin. Our team remained calm, we built a game plan and executed it perfectly.”

“I am glad that we were able to rebound and earn a top-ten finish. I believe that if we didn’t lose a lap early we had a top-three car. The MMM guys prepared a great car and worked hard all weekend long. I can’t thank them enough for another opportunity.”

The finish marks Dean’s second top-ten finish in three ARCA starts in 2015.

It will be a quick turnaround for MMM and the ARCA Racing Series as the Series heads to the only road course on the schedule the New Jersey Motorsports Park located in Millville, New Jersey. Teams will
practice, qualify and race Saturday, May 28th for the Unique Pretzels 150. ARCA will provide live timing/scoring for all on-track activity along with a live audio call for the race.
