Quick Recap: Despite qualifying mid-pack for the final restrictor plate race of the season at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway, Gus Dean (@gusdean) quickly drafted his No. 32 GREE Cooling Products | Baker Distributing Chevrolet SS into the top-10 throughout the General Tire 200.

Showcasing the strength of his Win-Tron Racing team, Dean found himself in a position to contend for his second superspeedway victory of his ARCA Racing Series career, before a late race restart put several teams in fuel conservation mode.

Dean’s gas tank, however, ran dry on the first attempt at a green-white-checkered finish sending the No. 32 GREE Racing team down to pit road for a splash of gas on the following lap.

Restarting 18th on the final restart which saw the green and white flags wave together, the Bluffton, S.C. native executed his car through the draft and picked off six spots coming to the checkered flag.

The result was Dean’s third top-17 finish of the 2018 season.

Gus Dean Quote: “I am heartbroken. I made the call to stay out on the race track when I should have came to pit road to top off our No. 32 GREE Cooling Products | Baker Distributing Chevrolet for fuel.

“It may have worked out for us because we probably would have been involved in the crash that broke out. It’s racing and its just part of the game. We have a great team with fast race cars and we’ll pick up the pieces and move on to Toledo.

“I just want to thank GREE, Tradewinds Climate Systems and Baker Distributing for their support and we’ll start posting the finishes we know we’re capable of real soon.”

Next Up: Menards 200 at Toledo Speedway on Sun., May 20.
