DUBLIN, Ga. — Riding the wave of momentum from a thrilling photo finish last month in ARCA Menards Series competition at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway, veteran race car driver Gus Dean is ready to get back to work — and back in the mud — continuing his 2026 Mud Truck campaign this weekend with the Southern Mud Outlaws Series at Historic 441 Speedway.
Dean enters the event with momentum on his side after charging a dramatic third-place finish in the ARCA Menards Series race at Talladega Superspeedway, where he was part of a three-wide battle for the win at the checkered flag in a photo finish.
The Bluffton, S.C., native now shifts his focus from superspeedway drafting packs to deep mud and massive horsepower, returning behind the wheel of his fan-favorite Mega Truck, “Vengeance,” as he looks to continue a strong season against some of the toughest competitors in the Southern Mud Outlaws Series.
Known for his fearless driving style and versatility across multiple forms of motorsports, Dean has become a familiar face in both the stock car and off-road worlds, balancing his short-track and superspeedway experience with his passion for mud racing.
While Dean knows the competition in the Southern Mud Outlaws Series will be fierce this weekend at Historic 441 Speedway, the former Mud Truck winner is ready for whatever is slung his way as he looks to put “Vengeance” back in Victory Lane.
With a packed crowd expected and a stacked field of Mega Trucks entered, fans are set for another high-energy showcase in Dublin, Ga.
For Dean, the opportunity to compete in the Southeast while carrying momentum from Talladega adds even more excitement to the weekend.
“Anytime you can leave Talladega with momentum and roll right into another race weekend, it gives you confidence,” said Dean.
“Mud racing is a completely different challenge, but that’s what makes it so much fun. The fans at these events are incredible, and we’re looking forward to putting on a show with Vengeance this weekend in Georgia.”
The Southern Mud Outlaws event at Historic 441 Speedway will feature multiple classes of competition, side-by-side racing action, and an electric atmosphere as Dean and the rest of the Mega Truck competitors battle for bragging rights in one of the region’s premier mud racing showcases.
Another key addition to Dean’s program this weekend is a fresh powerplant from Wicked Racing Engines, the respected engine-building operation led by Duke Bohanan.
Known throughout the Mud Truck community for its attention to detail, reliability and performance, Wicked Racing Engines continues to provide Dean with the horsepower needed to compete at a high level in the demanding world of Mud Truck competition.
Dean is hopeful the new combination will help “Vengeance” continue building momentum as the 2026 season rolls deeper into the summer stretch.
Whether on asphalt or in the mud, Dean continues to showcase the competitive drive and versatility that have made him a fan favorite across multiple forms of racing competition.
As the 2026 Mud Truck season continues to gain momentum, Dean remains focused on adding another strong performance to his growing list of accomplishments behind the wheel of “Vengeance,” while continuing to build on the excitement surrounding his recent success on the national stock car racing stage.
“We’re excited to get back out there with ‘Vengeance’ this weekend,” added Dean.
“The Southern Mud Outlaws events always bring tough competition and a great atmosphere, so you know you have to be on your game. We’ve had some strong runs in Mud Truck competition before, and hopefully we can keep the momentum rolling from Talladega and put on a show for the fans in Dublin.”
Beyond the competition itself, Dean has also become one of the more respected voices advocating for improved safety across the Mud Truck community.
Through his experience competing at some of motorsports’ highest levels, Dean has used his platform to encourage safer practices within the sport, including the adoption of upgraded driver safety equipment and increased awareness surrounding cockpit protection.
As Mud Truck racing continues to expand across the Southeast and beyond, Dean believes the sport’s evolution should also place a stronger emphasis on driver safety and preparation — something he hopes will help preserve the discipline’s future for years to come.
“Being able to race in different forms of motorsports has taught me a lot about how important safety really is,” said Dean. “Mud Truck racing has exploded in popularity, and that’s a great thing, but as it continues to grow, it’s important we continue learning and improving too.
“If I can help bring some awareness from the stock car side of racing and encourage drivers to invest in better equipment and protection, then hopefully we’re helping make the sport safer for everybody while still keeping the excitement and passion that makes mud racing so special.”
As engines roar to life and the mud begins to fly this weekend in the Peach State, Dean will once again climb behind the wheel of his Vengeance beast, ready to compete in front of thousands of industry fans.
Armed with momentum from his 2025 season-ending Mud Truck victory and coming off a thrilling photo-finish battle at Talladega Superspeedway in ARCA Menards Series competition, Dean enters the weekend fueled by confidence and the electric atmosphere that Southern Mud Outlaws events consistently deliver.
Now, he hopes to keep that momentum rolling by continuing his strong start to 2026 and returning “Vengeance” to the Victory podium.
Following his Historic 441 Speedway run, Dean will continue chasing wins throughout the summer stretch of Mud Truck competition while also looking to expand his 2026 schedule with opportunities across other motorsports platforms along the way.
