Gus Dean takes recent Truck Series momentum to Bristol Motor Speedway

BRISTOL, Tenn.: NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series (NGOTS) rookie Gus Dean (@GusDean) heads to Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway for Thursday night’s UNOH 200 looking to continue an uptick in performance aboard his No. 12 Chevrolet Silverado for Young’s Motorsports.

While Dean, a two-time winner in the ARCA Menards Series has certainly endured some rookie bumps this season, the Bluffton, S.C.-native has increased his presence inside the top-10 over the last month and hopes to continue that trend as LG Air Conditioning Technologies returns for their fourth sponsored race of the 2019 season.

“I’m looking forward to Bristol this weekend,” said Dean.

“I’m very proud of my Young’s Motorsports team. They have worked tirelessly over the last month to bring me competitive trucks and I’m determined to keep doing what I’ve been doing behind the wheel.

“The last couple of races, Pocono and Michigan in particular, I’ve been able to capture some stage points and put us in a good place to contend for strong finishes. If we had a couple more laps last weekend at Michigan, I really feel like we could have gotten a top-10 finish, but that’s what we’ll strive for on Thursday night.”

Even though the 24-year-old Dean doesn’t have any prior Truck Series experience in Thunder Valley, the South Carolinian is hoping that the track will fit a similar driving style that Dean mastered in the ARCA Menards Series at Salem (Ind.) Speedway, a tough and treacherous half-mile oval.

“I love short track racing,” added Dean. “Salem Speedway was one of my favorite ARCA tracks and I’ve been told the mentality is the same there for Bristol. I’m looking forward to getting our No. 12 LG Air Conditioning Technologies Chevrolet Silverado dialed in during practice and contend for another solid finish.”

Dean’s No. 12 Young’s Motorsports team recently went through a crew chief change with the departure of Jeff Stankiewicz. Ryan “Pickle” London inherited the role at Pocono and Dean says the transition and has been seamless.

“Pickle (Ryan) and I seem to be really gelling and I think that has translated with our on-track performance,” Dean mentioned. “Our communication is great, and he keeps me focused and motivated behind the wheel. With him on top of the pit box and my spotter Tyler Green doing a flawless job every weekend, I think we can really make some noise in this stretch to Homestead.

“I’m just excited to be racing in NASCAR and to have the support and represent partners like LG Air Conditioning Technologies and Baker Distributing, I’m truly blessed.”
